This brief overview identifies the new credits as well as the new point structure in LEED 2009. Learn about GBCI (Green Building Certification Institute) and the new LEED Professional Accreditation program. Beth is a founding member of the Alabama Chapter of USGBC.

Understand the process of when & why certain elements were chosen and installed with White-Spunner Project Manager Scott Rowe, LEED AP, and LEED Consultant Beth Manguso, LEED AP, of Piedmont Green Building Solutions.  The building was conceived by the White-Spunner executive team with Scott Rowe and designed by Douglas Kearley, AIA

Directions: From I-10 take 59 South towards Foley. North of Foley, take a right onto CR 24. Follow for a couple of miles, take a left onto CR 65. Follow for about a mile to second right onto Dailey Lane. Take first right onto Rooster. Home is straight ahead. From 59 North, coming from Gulf Shores area, take left onto Hwy 98. June 2009:  BRAVING THE GREEN JUNGLE: Explore Green and Low-energy Home Options

Overview:    The Complete Streets Committee is under the umbrella of the Walkable Communities Study Group within Smart Coast. The mission of Smart Coast is to work toward a vision of an economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable Alabama coastal region.  We believe that walkable communities will be critical and highly desirable in our more densely populated and energy constricted future.  What a complete street is, why they’re desirable, the statistics behind the need, examples of other communities’ policies, and some visual examples utilizing before and after photos of complete streets.

Overview:

In these special economic times the cost of energy is a top priority for the utilities, companies and our home budgets. In fact our national politics have been  shaped and impacted. Energy management and cost reduction is a much needed and a compelling sale. Fortunately reliable low cost wireless technology and control products are developing at a rapid rate to assist us.  These products are especially applicable for us in dorms, apartments, and hotels - anywhere the owner pays the utility bills.


Feb 09: Home Energy Rating on the Gulf Coast

Overview: Ron Head was the first Home Energy Rater in South Alabama and has extensive training in High Performance Buildings over the last 10-20 years for both residential and commercial applications.  His practical experience of installing cellulose and foam insulation, and sealing and caulking as well as the design and installation of heating and air conditioning systems along the Gulf Coast will make an informative presentation.  He'll be able to answer questions from the most basic to the more complex issues related to energy efficiency, comfort, and indoor air quality. His HVAC company (one of the largest in South Alabama) currently oversees and certifies all of Benchmark's Homes to assure compliance to the Energy Star program as well as numerous other projects. "Fortified... for Safer Living" is a program sponsored by the IBHS - Institute for Business and Home Safety.  SkyeTec works with this programs as well as others and has resources and personnel equipped to assess various building conditions and provide recommendations on improving energy efficiency and sustainability. Their goal is to develop the most cost-efficient, effective, and dynamic Green strategy for a project - from program selection through final project certification They can assist in fulfilling credit requirements for various Green initiatives, including LEED® certification.
